In this weeks trend report, we’re talking about all things gathered and good with smocked styles. This trendy bunched up style has been popping into all of the boutiques lately and is surprisingly a flattering style for all as it’s comfy and form fitting yet forgiving in the places we maybe want it to be more than others. This isn’t one of those trends that works for some and not others as it really doesn’t have many restrictions when it comes to chest size and body type – it’s nearly a one-size-fits-all trend!
I love the smocked trend because it adds detail to what would otherwise be a simple basic piece, such as this peplum belle sleeve top from Olive + Pepper. The smocked detailing was brought in to this piece with a nude/gold glitter threading that brought out the smocking even more. Here i’ve paired this style with a distressed denim skirt for an afternoon style, but also considered styling this top with white fray-hem skinny jeans and a classic nude heel for a dressier style.
I definitely don’t think that this is a trend that’s going to come and go with the passing of a month. Looking ahead at fall styles, I’m already seeking plenty of smocked styles for casual everyday wear and evenings out.
