Tucked away in the pretty little suburbs of London sits Notting Hill – a gorgeous, quaint and picturesque neighborhood boasting mirrored white homes on left and right and colorful pops with every turn. If you ask me, a visit to the area is a must when in London.
But let’s get to talking about todays “ootd” as I could seriously go on and on about my love for Notting Hill! As if we all didn’t already love target enough… let’s show it a little more. Today’s outfit is simple, subtle and classy ย (a MUST when traveling Europe) featuring this pleated skirt from the Who What Wear collection at Target and this simple tied tank from Urban Violet.
Pleats starting poking around again this past winter and while I tend to blog about trends, I don’t know it I’d even put pleats in that category any more for ย the fact that they’re still here and very much so in the “now” of the fashion world. But can you see why? This outfit is beyond basic. Solid hues, simple jewelry, there really isn’t much there. It’s the details in the pleats that make this outfit stand out. Sometimes the key to the perfect look is adding the perfect texture, and in this case, pleats were the magic trick.
Shopping through London is magical – you never know what you’re going to find! Prints, patterns, textures and all, for even those who don’t typically care for a stroll through the mall or popping into boutiques, take my word for it… London’s style may change your mind. Tying into this post, I saw pleats everywhere… and I mean EVERYWHERE. Swimsuits, tops, bottoms, lingerie and all, you name it… pleats are present. Who knows how long ย they’re going to stick around but if you had to ask me,I think it’s safe to say that whether they’re “trending”or not, you can most definitely get by with wearing pleats for the sense that they’re just the right touch of classy chic.
In case you need a little more convincing into investing in some pleated material… here are my top three favorite ways to style pleats!
- Get Cozy – Need a look that both cozy and cute? Bundle up in your favorite knit sweater and toss on a pleated midi skirt, some simple heels or sneakers (for even more casual!) and perhaps a little jewelry if necessary to match the occasion.
- Denim Do’s – Pair your pleats with your favorite denim button up or a simple tee and a denim jacket and some casual kicks to add a mix of texture to your style!
- Simply Sleek – As you see here, pair with basic tops that are elegant but not too bold. This tied tank is the perfect piece to tie (ha!) this ensemble together without going overboard.
- Tips: Avoid getting too crazy… Stay away from sparkles, stripes, polka dots, and other crazy patterns and textures when mixing with pleats. It’s best to keep it simple and go by the rule of thumb that less is more!
