Pinks and reds are everywhere and love is filling the air, the sweetest time of year is here, and I for one, am giving a cheer.
People tend to look at me like I’m crazy when I admit that Valentines day is my favorite holiday (second to the Christmas season of course). I get scrunched up noses, pitiful looks and sighs from the singles all proclaiming it is the WORST time of year. Yet I on the other hand, disagree.
There’s something about walking down the pink lined isles of target, hand picking goodies for your ones near and dear and stopping to smell the flowers, just because you can. I may be single this Valentines day, but I’m embracing it just as I always have, yet this time, with a different perspective on love.
Love consumes our everyday life whether we see it or not. With every action we do, love is in hindsight. We’re constantly trying to please others, looking for acceptance and trying to feel appreciation for the things we do, yet little do we know… all we’re looking for is love. Stop searching in the places where there is nothing to be found. Don’t put your happiness in the hands of others instead, embrace the gifts God’s given YOU as an individual, single or not, and take a day to yourself this month to really learn to love the incredible person you are.
If being single has taught me any one thing it’s the importance of self worth. Prior to breaking things off I’d never really known myself. Sound stupid? Yes, I’d agree with you, it does sound a little weird saying it out loud but I had no idea who in the world I was supposed to be, what my passions were and what I was truly capable of. Prior to being single I had accomplished next to nothing on my own that was worth filling myself with pride over because really, it’s okay to be proud of yourself sometimes. Since I’ve started Blonde & Bliss I’ve discovered so much about myself that I never thought would be a quality hidden so deep within myself. I’d always enjoyed writing, but never explored my options with it. Fashion? Yeah I liked shopping and clothes, but so what? My point is, this was my mindset prior to starting Blonde & Bliss. I had things I enjoyed but didn’t realize they were my passions until I spent a little time getting to know myself and what my true goals in life were, once I figured that out, everything fell into place and I haven’t turned back to my old habits since. Everyday I wake up feeling inspired to do something I’ve never done. I try to get myself to try something new everyday whether it’s a new move at the gym, a new route to class, a stop at a new coffee shop or even a new way of wearing an outfit. When you take the opportunity to try something new everyday your outlook on life is just that much more exciting, which is why I am challenging you, too, to try something new this month. Consider the things you hold near and dear to your heart, what is it that really makes you happy? That one thing that makes you, YOU? My request for you this month is simple, go on a date with yourself. Yes I said it, yourself – Just “me, myself and I.” Self love is probably the most important type of love that there is, as it’s hard to really love someone else without truly loving and accepting yourself first. Whether you’re single or not, I don’t care, take a day just for you and discover what it really means to love yourself full heartedly, because each and every one of you is special in your own unique way, and that alone, is something to love.
Here’s to a month of love and discovering the things that make us who we are, I hope that by the end of this season you too, will be embracing the joys of Valentines. So with that, get out, have some fun, and try something new – you’ll thank yourself later!
