My mom, an avid thrifter and refurbisher, is constantly dragging me into thrift stores in search of hidden “treasures” which she uses as props for her photography business. I, on the other hand, hate thrifting. But on our last trip, I managed to keep myself busy in the dressing room trying numerous pairs of men’s jeans (yes men’s, I’ll explain later) in search of the perfect fit.
I’m sure you’re curious as to why I was searching for men’s jeans, and here’s the secret: they make the BEST high waisted shorts. Naturally (if you find the right pair) men’s jeans tend to fit us ladies higher up around the waist, not to mention add a nice little lift to the behind (yes please!) – for the best results, opt for a pair that fits your waist perfectly and flares out a bit around the thighs, giving some room to work with when cuffing (example below).
If cuffed shorts aren’t your style, no problem. In fact, it’s actually easier to fray the hems of these jean shorts versus finding that perfect length to cuff the shorts correctly. Once you’ve cut the legs off of the jeans, take a sharp object, such as a seam ripper, and work at the hem of the fabric.
